Quick! You’re about to be stranded on a desert island and you can only take one book! Which do you choose?
All of them, of course. Who can decide on just one book?
This blog is here to help narrow down your selection of books to ones that are really worth lugging to a desert island (or downloading to your e-reader). I’ll be reviewing books in all genres, but only recommending ones that are, in my opinion, truly worth your time.
Who am I?
I’m Amanda, a twenty-something (though quickly approaching thirty) who loves to read and share reviews of books. I read everything, short and long, fiction and non, young adult to mature adult. I love talking about books and finding new titles to add to my always-growing library. I’m a former English and history double major, a lawyer (though not working as one), and a mom to both a human and a dog. My interests are varied and so are my reading tastes.
What do I review?
Anything! My reviews will always be honest and I’ll do my best to avoid any kind of plot spoilers, because who doesn’t hate those? My reviews will always be accompanied by a rating in starfish. My personal rating scale is this:
✮: Didn’t like it and wouldn’t recommend it.
✮✮: Had some major flaws, but had something redeeming.
✮✮✮: It was okay and might be worth reading, depending on your tastes and preferences.
✮✮✮✮: Really liked it, but not a favorite. Would probably take it with me to a desert island.
✮✮✮✮✮: On the short list of books to take if I really can take only one book.
My ratings will likely skew toward more favorable ones, but only because of selection bias. I choose what I want to read and review, and if it doesn’t seem worthwhile, I won’t bother writing a review for it.
How do I decide what to review?
Mostly, I’ll be choosing books that look interesting to me, whether I buy them myself, get them from the library, or receive copies from publishers or authors via NetGalley or other means. If you’re interested in having me review your book, visit the contact page and send me a message! I’ll get back to you as soon as possible. I don’t discriminate based on publisher. Indie and self-published authors are just as welcome to send me a message as more established authors or publishers.
What will be on this blog? How often will it be updated?
The short answer is: book reviews, and a few times a week. The longer answer is that this blog will feature primarily book reviews with some giveaways and some other book-themed posts as appropriate. I’ll update as often as I can, but I won’t promise to stick to a specific schedule — that would be a recipe for disaster. Some of the reviews posted here were originally posted on Goodreads, but most have been adapted for blog format (read: they’re a little longer). All reviews I post will appear in some form on Goodreads as well.
Have questions? Feel free to send me a message via the contact link at the top of the page or shoot me an e-mail at email@example.com. I’ll do my best to get back to you in a timely manner.
